Topic: “A fresh look at the ‘world church’- a snapshot from the Synod last October”
Karl Rahner wrote an essay after the Second Vatican Council arguing that it was the first meeting of the world church. Sixty years later, the meeting of the Synod of Bishops in October 2023 gave us a new view of this world church. This is a very different view to what was seen sixty years ago. What are we to make of the “world church” on display in Rome last October? While we might rejoice in the diversity of the church, there may also be aspects that are unsettling. Perhaps this will change the way we think about the relationship between a universal church and local churches.
Come and enjoy some reflection, silence and solitude in the beautiful Marist grounds.
