Films can be healing. By bringing the art of lectio to the viewing of a film we can deepen our understanding and facilitate the healing of our relationships with God, Ourselves, Others and Creation.
Set in rural Ireland in 1981, Nine-year-old Cait is sent away from her overcrowded, dysfunctional family to live with foster parents for the summer. Quietly struggling at school and at home, she has learned to hide in plain sight from those around her. She blossoms in their care, but in this house where there are meant to be no secrets, she discovers one painful truth. She also discovers the transformative power of what it is to be loved. It is as “beautiful as it is devastating”. Having been nominated for the Oscars for the Best International Feature Film in 2023, The Quiet Girl knows how to communicate beyond words.
