Catalyst member Julie Thorpe’s book, Reasons for Hope: Hélder Câmara, Global Catholicism and the Australian Church was launched on July 30 at Newman College Melbourne by fellow Catalyst member Geraldine Doogue, with Br Mark O’Connner who commissioned the book and this year’s Hélder Câmara lecturer, Mauricio Lopez.

It is the 40th anniversary of this lecture series which was initiated by Br Mark who has invited outstanding international speakers to Australia. He told Julie that he wanted “to imagine the Church as a polyphony – not cacophony – of voices”. Austen Ivereigh told us last week on SOS that he is reviewing the book for the Tablet. The book is available from Garratt Publishing.

Congratulations, Julie.
