This will be an exploration of how engaging deeply with poetry can assist in an understanding of our inner world, of what can support our search for self-understanding, inner harmony and divine guidance.
You are encouraged to read and ponder on the poems a few days before each session. You are also encouraged to respond to the poems in writing, either by way of commentary on the poems, or by way of a creative response (poetry or prose)
We will begin with the following poems:
- “The Wattle Tree” by Judith Wright (1915-2000)
- “The Altar” by George Herbert (1593-1633)
- “But, the silence in the mind” by R.S. Thomas (1913-2000)
- “Little Gidding”- from Sections II and V by T.S. Eliot (1888-1965)
- “When death comes” by Mary Oliver (1935-2019)
- “Sailing to Byzantium” by William Butler Yeats (1865-1939)
More poems will be added as needed and you are welcome to suggest any additional poems that connect with the theme of this short course.
