This three week course will present some of René Girard’s insights into the effects of the Gospel on the age-old process of scapegoating victims. Scapegoating was an accepted way of dealing with social unrest but its effectiveness is now increasingly curtailed through the reversal occasioned by the Gospel and the realisation of Jesus as the primary scapegoat. Girard’s ground-breaking ideas are helping people to understand history and current events in a new light.
