Anna Tydd & Noel Debien
Anna has 15 years of legal and policy experience examining the institutional response of Catholic Church
authorities to child sexual abuse with specific interest in the cultural risk factors unique to members of the
Catholic Church. Anna is the newly appointed Executive Officer for the implementation Advisory Group (IAG)
that has been established to advise the ACBC and CRA with respect to the implementation of the Royal
Commission recommendations. Before her current appointment, from August 2017 to December 2018, Anna was
the Director of Professional Standards and Safeguarding for the Diocese of Wollongong. Prior to this, Anna acted
as a Legal Team Manager for 4 years with the Royal Commission into institutional Responses to Child Sexual
Abuse from January 2006 to 2009, instructing Gail Furness SC in several of the public hearings relating to the
Catholic Church and also managing various projects including the Catholic Data Project.
Noel Debien is a religion specialist with the ABC’s radio religion and ethics unit. Noel came to ABC religion unit
in 1996 and has worked producing, reporting or presenting across a range of television programs, including The
Drum, ABC Carols for Christmas, Hymns of Glory, Compass, People Dimensions, 2000 Today, Race Around the
World; and ABC Radio programs, including Life Matters, The Religion Report, The Europeans (all Radio
National); as well as Sunday Nights on local radio, For the God Who Sings on Classic FM and God Forbid on RN.
He has been a teacher in secondary schools. He has also lectured in theology and literature. He currently directs
the choir of St Francis, Paddington.
