SIP was Catalyst’s first forum for conversation and has operated continuously since 1995.

The idea is as simple as it is effective: Two competent speakers – usually a man and a woman – lead the conversation on a topic that is of some significance – often a social justice issue – each sharing their thoughts for a total of approximately thirty minutes. This is followed by approximately one hour when those present are invited to share in the conversation by asking questions or making comments to which the speakers and those others present are invited to respond.  Read more background about SIP here.

The outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 caused the suspension of SIP gatherings at all our venues. As of early 2023, a few venues are operating again with full programs planned for the year, a number of others are expecting to recommence when conditions allow, and some have closed permanently. For information about currently operating SIP venues, email sip@catalystforrenewal.org.au

Our response to the suspension of SIP gatherings was to take the format online, using Zoom. The first meeting of Spirituality on the Sofa took place in July 2020. SOS gatherings continue on the first Wednesday of each month from March to October. Review our program for the year here (available soon). Details of upcoming SOS meetings are posted on our Events page (soon) and on our Home page.
