Dr Annie Cantwell-Bartl has a long background in supporting people after loss, as well as having her own experience of profound loss. Formerly a palliative care nurse at Caritas Christi, and a worker at Corpus Christi with homeless men, she conducted research interviews with 700 terminal cancer patients or their carers. Her Doctorate was on parents of children expected to die of congenital heart defects.

Now a psychologist and psychotherapist, she was involved with counselling people after the Bourke St car rampage in January 2017. Earlier, she was awarded the media prize from the National Association for Loss and Grief for an article in the Age on her mother’s stroke.
